Rick has always recognized that “coincidence” has consistently been a theme in his life and nothing speaks to that phenomenon more than his first meeting with George Schott who was sitting in Rick’s office when he received the news of Marti’s death. George was interested in re-establishing his goal of breeding champion Morgans under his MEM banner and had come to discuss those goals with Rick.

Since Futurity French Command’s stud book was closed for the season, George was making arrangements to breed to Cabot’s other famous stallion, Cedar Creek Harlequin, as well as to line up breedings to French for the next year. The die was cast and the re-birth of Maine Event Morgans was on track as was the creation of a business alliance that would prove to be one of the most successful in the Morgan industry.

Under Rick’s insight and guidance, George purchased some of the finest broodmares in the country and the MEM breeding program was on the fast track to success. The mares Star Lake Ellisa, Carlyle Ten, AFF Beulah, AFF Chapel Belle, AFF Evening Episode, AFF Tailored to Taste, Maine Event Jasmine, JW French Miss, Miss Bluegrass, Saralin’s Markette and Cabot Joie De Vivre represented some of the finest bloodlines in the country and were the foundation upon which the MEM “dynasty” would be built. There was no doubt that George Schott and his MEM Morgans were back and that Rick Lane would manage and direct the program that would make MEM a household name for Morgan fans.
